Established in 1964 as the nation’s first cabinet-level state child welfare agency, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is Illinois ’ public child welfare agency.  Along with its many private-sector child welfare partners, DCFS provides a wide variety of services aimed at protecting vulnerable children and strengthening families.  DCFS is also the nation’s largest state child welfare agency to earn accreditation from the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services (COA).
